Perhaps all our attention have been misplaced a little. 5 matches into the tournament and we realised that we had lost 4. but that's probably not that important. what's troubling our team, i believe, is our willingness to play the game, to enjoy the game. Just as i said during the full time team talk, albeit a little harsher, we were not even playing football. The game went from the opponent, to our goalkeeper, and to our opponent again. vicious cycle. Considering that half of our team have at least played for our respective schools, that is actually quite ridiculous.

Actually, we don't have to see the game play to understand the team's commitment. Just by seeing the number of replies we get when we inform people about the upcoming matches, it seemingly reflects the reluctance to play football every sunday. Only a handful reply regularly. And only quanbao and yongchun actually looked forward to these games. at least that's what i feel when i receive their messages. 2 out of a squad that is nearing 20?

So i have a small request here. however, you feel about the games on sunday at 5 pm, can we at least put up a positive mindset for that 2 hours? or just feel happy to receive the messages telling you that there's a game on sunday? football, after all, isn't like chiong-suaing right?

I wasn't there, so i couldn't give you the full report of that match. In fact, i only know the scores and the scorers. and the fact that we pressured them throughout the match and missed a lot of opportunities to win the game.

Anyway, the Islandwide Social Football League has came to a disappointing end last week. Yep, the league will not continue. While it does look like a blessing in disguise for us (at current rate, i doubt we'll actually win any more matches), we must still not forget that we actually wanted to go all the way to the final in the beginning. Especially since we had beaten Redbacks 8-2. whipped their ass remember? Of course, administrative wise, it's difficult for all of us to sustain, considering when we really have to travel all around Singapore, let's just admit that by the last few matches, none of us had the determination to carry on, isn't it?

So this will be a reflective entry. i will be honest and to the point. so, i hope that everyone can take it well and not get personal over this.

I shall start with the team as a whole.

Tactically, we don't play like a unit. Off field, we don't work like a unit. somehow, it seems like there were difficulties communicating with one another within the team itself. funny thing is, we built this team because we have been playing together for quite some time. at the very least 2 years. simple things like being at the game one time, or actually at the game itself were not done. sometimes, i do wonder if we are playing because we want to win, or is it that we're just playing for the sake of playing.

Of course, i myself, was guilty for the same thing on quite a few occasions. when we were 2-3 goals down, i wasn't able to motivate even myself, less say the team, to fight for a comeback. neither was i hungry enough to challenge for the balls when i needed to. especially in the match against kallang cs. i was overwhelmed.

i will now talk about all the players who had played for us during this tournament.

Tuan Jiaw
probably the best performer during the competition. punctual all the time. and it's really amusing and amazing that we are actually depending on the youngest player in the team.

Xuan Hui
Floorball commitments restricted the number of games he has played. nevertheless, made a lot of differences whenever he's on the field. However, you'll need to learn to control your temperament a little bit more. good to be fiery but not crazy. think steven gerrard and wayne rooney.

Ian Yang
Has been playing rather well throughout. vast improvements no doubt. however, you'll still need to be a lot less panicky when you have the ball and pay attention to the defence line all the time. punctuality was an issue on a couple of occasions.

Luqman
The coolest and the most solid defender in our team. While it is not exactly a good thing, our team has been relying on you for when defending. Punctuality was a big issue in the beginning. However, subsequently, i was more worried about your morale and confidence in the team in the last couple of matches. Please remember that not everyone will make the right comment all the time. sometimes, even the best comment hurts. don't worry about what other people say if you have done your job. in fact, job done very very well. the last thing i'd want to see is you giving up on the team. because not just on the field, off the field you were one of those that is more passionate and supportive throughout.

Shanghao
i was very pleased when i realise that for almost every match, you were early. and there is nothing but respect for your patience to wait for your chance to play. i really like your attitude that team comes first football or not. football wise, you still need to improve on your composure on and off the ball. like what to do when you have possesion (not just kick the ball away) and where to run when the ball's not with you. don't just follow the attacker wherever he goes. use your body to show him the way. like how adrian ho used to teach us to force the winger to make a cross then to actually expose your whole body to turn you upside down. but i've also heard that during the game against wsus, you have improved your positioning and your aerial ability. really glad to know that.

John
team manager. and i believe no one would have done a better job than you do. no one would be more committed. I also like it that during matches, you were able to step out and try to motivate the team and point out what went wrong on the field. however, one thing i would want to highlight is try to be less explicit with your comments. or actually, try not to focus on just one topic during the 10 minutes that you talk. maybe you can try to point out some good points during the game rather than reflect only the bad points. this will help boost the morale of the team on most occasions. gameplay wise, as a defender, don't ever let the ball bounce over you or let any striker to run from behind you. There were quite a number of occasions when luqman had to dash back to recover because the striker has already beaten you off the ball. yep. take note.

Daniel
Whenever i see you play, i'd imagine you as roy keane when he was playing for nottingham forest, always running up and down trying to hunt for the ball. Temperament wise, you have also really improved a lot. technically, you'd need to improve your first touches as well as your ability to release your passes quicker. like how you placed the ball nicely for me to score at alexandra hospital. however, one thing i'd like to focus more is also your morale and confidence. similar to luqman, i believe, after the match against old boys you were very frustrated and disappointed. but please do not give up just like this. as cliche as it may sound, what doesn't break you makes you tougher. together everyone achieves more eh?

Kevin
You bring flair and creativity to team whenever you play. however, most of the time, we have to play you in the central part of the formation (i believe you're most comfortable on the left eh?) is because we have no one else better to fill in there. but do keep up the good work!

Johnny
Every time you play, you get more comfortable in your position and more composed on and off the ball. like ian, you have improved tremendously. to force xuanhui to play on the right side of the defence is an achievement you know? but one thing to take note of, while i like that you are the cheerful most of the time, when it's time to get serious please do. keep on improving~

Yong Teng
I've never actually hear you complain about anything on the team. and like shanghao, you've always think of the team first than yourself. i still like your tactical contributions, however the sad thing is, your brother is injured again and we may have to think of some formation all over again.

Ivan Wijaya and Zhang Jiaming
There seems to be this wall between the both of you and the rest of the team. But both of you were the hardest worker whenever you're on the pitch. I believe sometimes it's very frustrating to either start on the bench or to be subbed out. actually all the time. But i hope you understand that most of the time when i decide the tactics it's not because you're not good enough, but more of to try and change the dimension of the game and also to let those still on the bench to have a chance to play. please accept that i don't make the most correct of decisions some of the time. Another thing is that i haven't actually find out both your playing positions on the field. Like how i thought Jiaming was very effective when he came on as a centre midfielder against old boys. similarly, ivan is able to play both right back and right winger. and please tell me personally if i did something wrong because i would want to correct myself too.

Robin
It's good that your enthusiasm is quite contagious most of the time. and it's really commendable when you woke the team up against kallang cs when we were 4-0 down at half time. it's also good that you are a very versatile player, except that you cannot kick with your right leg at all. as one of the more senior players in the team, you have been very positive throughout. and you have been playing quite well and scoring quite a number of goals.

Alvin
You can score. In fact, you are the top scorer right before this tournament. But do learn how to hold the ball up and bring in the rest of the team to attack. as a target man, you need to lay the ball to your team mates nicely and move into scoring positions quickly. It's definitely very frustrating for you during this period because most of the time, our time were defending more than we're attacking. hang in there though.

Quanbao
If it's possible, i'd like to combine you and alvin one day. Your ability to hold and shield the ball is marvellous, however, you take a damn bloody long time to shoot. And because you are used to play as a left winger, you tend to drift to the left leaving an empty space in the centre. however, i really like your gung-ho spirit to try and hunt down the ball whenever possible.

Bernard
No doubt the most skillful player in out team. it's a joy to watch you run and cut past opponents every time you have the ball, even though it is very frustrating to see you lose it at the same time. Our team do look more lively whenever you are playing.

Daryl
When you're on form, you're really very very good. Yet most of the time, you do look a little dreamy and your tackles were not hard enough. Perhaps you could look at the way how bernard plays since both of you have similar styles. continue to work hard!

Excuse my English and also, I know this do sound a little crappy but i really wish i can find a way how to improve our team and gel it together. or maybe i am over doing it. but whatever the case, please do not give up on the team yet. i know defeats are hard to take, and there would only be more and more tensions and misunderstandings. but just try to be a little bit more patient and someday we might just be the best social team around. in fact, i do have this dream that we will be able to join some semi-professional competition. continue to work hard everyone!

Tough fight between Luqman, Kevin, Bernard.
But the clean sheet did give Luqman the upper hand.

Finally a clean sheet. 5 games into the tournament, we were finally able to defend properly without any lapse of concentrations or blunders. Not that Carrera FC played particularly well, and also, the team we played against today was by far the weakest team we have played this year. The 1-0 victory definitely showed that we did not play well at all. 1-0, I believe, not enough.

On the positive side, we were also finally able to control a game. stroke the ball around comfortably, although there were a lot of room for improvements. The return of Kevin and Bernard to the starting line-up no doubt added flair and composure to our game. And with Luqman playing well today, this was no doubt the best team Carrera FC can play with thus far.

However, the commitment for the game was not very apparent. Time and time again, players over dribble, passes went astray, and attackers not taking their chances. And despite the amount of control and possesion we had, we were not able to penetrate. The goal in the second half was actually the only real chance we had in the entire game.

Good defending yes. But definitely not a good victory. It should have at least been more emphatic. Still a young team. Still improving.

Was is really complacency? Or were we intimidated by the professional approach our opponents produced? Or was it because we were never ready for this game? After 2 games of emphatic victories, have we, Carrera FC, lost the will to continue playing well in the tournament?

This was exactly what we produced on the pitch. Since kick off, we were just defending all the while, hoping that we would cling on to the clean sheet until the end of the game. Honestly, from the way we're playing, that was what had been going through my mind during the entire first half. None of us wer.e willing to challenge for headers. None of us were willing to close down the opponents. We were not passing We were not playing like a team.

Fair enough, I, as the captain of the team, wasn't even playing like how i should be playing. Wasn't even motivated. and definitely, not motivating the team.

Why must we always have a wake up call before we improve? and then sit back again and wait for another wake up call. And why are we always afraid of our opponents? Why is it that football as to be a racially determined game; just because the whole team have malays mean they play better football? Why is it that we always have to emphasize on the issue of punctuality?

Can we clear all these discipline and attitude issues once and for all? Because, at least when we lose, there is nothing to feel guilty about.

At least we were able to take out some positives from this setback. Robin blasted the whole team, and woke me up from my dreamland. Luqman was still very positive. And i liked what he said, "Make it difficult for the opponents. We have nothing to lose."

And we improved in the second half. Though we were still outplayed by the opponent, at least we were fighting for the ball. We were motivated. We were at some point, attacking. And to think that this is the first time when we played better in the second time, amazing.

At the end of the day, we asked ourselves, could we have won this game? Maybe? Definitely. Or at least a draw.

Let us all take this back as a lesson. Prepare ourselves for the next game.

A sunny day. A really sunny day as Carrera FC prepared for their 3rd match of the Islandwide Social Football League Tournament. Fresh from the emphatic victory last sunday against Redbacks FC, the Carrera boys came into the game very confidently. In fact, it was the first time everyone arrived before kick-off, and the team manager and captain were able to send out instructions for the match.

The match started with a blast, with Se Wei making full use off a loose ball conceded by the opponent at the edge of the area. Skipping past the last man, the right winger side footed the goalkeeper as celebrated the 9th Carrera FC goal in the tournament. Carrera FC continued to dominate when Se Wei again, almost added to his tally when his first time shot found the right post after he spotted the keeper off his line from 30m.

The game finally slowed down as Rajinoh FC started to get involved. The men in yellow came close to equalising after a direct hit from the free kick was denied by the quick-thinking Tuan Jiaw. 10 minutes later, Rajinoh FC finally hit back from a quick counter attack, as the ball was played across the field from the left to the right wing, and a first time cross sending their target man free to score their first goal of the tournament. 1-1.

Rajinoh FC almost took the lead as the first half approached the end when a low drive from the edge of the area was again denied by Tuan Jiaw who dived brilliantly to his right. great save indeed.

The second half saw Rajinoh FC controlling the game again as Carrera FC continued with their lacklustre play, giving away balls after balls unnecessarily. Carrera's defence were under constant pressure with fouls after fouls conceded right outside the area. However, as the game almost came to a close, Se Wei produced another moment of magic. Taking the ball down from Jia Ming's nod on, he took a shot 25 m away from the goal without even assesing his other options. on any other day, his team mates would probably curse and swear of his selfish play. but what a goal it was, and what a time to score that goal.Right into the top left hand corner with the keeper left totally stranded.

Carrera FC finally picked up the pace again with Yong Teng, Ivan and Robin both trying their lucks against the keeper. yet the game was not over. Bojinoh FC probably produced one of the contending miss of the season. Taking the ball pass the left back, the right midfielder found his striker inside the 6 yard box. Without any presssure, the striker scooped the ball over the bar as he tried to take the shot first time. last chance to equalise. last chance gone.

Well done Carrera FC! Shall continue to work hard and achieve better performances and results!
